HE DID IT!!!!! Mom and Dad can breathe. The days of worry and strife have come to an end. (But only temporarily) Skylar has tried most of the time while attending Syracuse High School to keep his grades up --- had a little trouble with the math---but did complete the necessary requirements for graduation. I am not sure of his exact grade point but I think it was close to a 3.0, which is okay. Somewhere along the line of his education he was given the idea that he was "not a smart student" and we have worked hard to let him know that he is smart. The important thing is that you learn to follow through with each assignment. I know that he is totally relieved to have this stage of life behind him. I really am just not sure that these young graduates know what is ahead of them. I think that sometimes it might feel like hitting a brick wall head on. Lots of decision to be made and lots of commitments to be kept.
At the dinner at Maddox's, Skylar opened a time capsule that his mother has kept on her shelf since third grade. So many fun and crazy things were inside, but the craziest was that he had written that MATH was his favorite subject. It ended up being his least favorite and biggest challenge.
Skylar's graduation exercises were held at the Dee Events Center in Ogden. This was a first for Brad and I. We have never been to this building. It was a very nice setting for a wonderful graduation exercise. I was very impressed with the students, the speakers, the music, the administrators, and teachers. The exercises began at 7:30 Thursday evening. (two other schools had held exercises earlier) We were afraid with over 500 graduates that we would be very late ----- but we were on the road home by 9:30. It was truly a great evening.
Skylar is a very special man ----- we expect great things from him.
