Katherine Scarlett Howell

Amanda had a very exciting day. It came to a close with her holding her sweet baby daughter safe in her arms.  Once again our family was truly blessed and another miracle has been given.  How gratefull I am to a loving Heavenly Father that looks after us.  I am also so very grateful for those persons who are truly dedicated in their fields of medicine and the safe keeping of patients.

Katherine Scarlett Howell was born August 19, 2011, at the Bear River Valley Hospital. She weighed seven pounds and five ounces and was 18 inches long.  Mother and daughter are doing very well.

Happy Birthday to Conner

Today is Conner's special day.  Conner joined the Nesbit family in 1992.  Again I wonder where the time has gone.  He is the youngest of Dan and Glenda's boys.  Conner is busy working at the Plant Peddler in Logan and preparing to start his second year at Utah State University.  He is a very handsome young man who I am sure will be able to accomplish his scholastic goals.  Love to him everyday.

Family Fun

This is one busy family-----

Brad and I took a drive to Bear Lake on Thursday to say Hi to Dennis and Sharron and their family.  They have been spending the week together.  Dennis has a time share and had reserved three nice units.  They have enjoyed playing and swimming and of course eating.  We enjoyed a delicious raspberry milkshake with them.  The lake is full and so blue and beautiful.  The canyon is green and plush.  Love driving with Brad.

Tonya, DelRay, Nate and MacKenzie spent Saturday and Sunday in Boise, Idaho, with Kelsey and Dusty.  They had a tremendous time.  Tonya's birthday was celebrated and lots of fun times were had. Tonya is loving her I Pad.  That was a wonderful gift.    Kelsey and MacKenzie also made her a beautiful cake.   Isn't it great having extended families.

Dan and Glenda had a nice motorcycle ride to Ogden  on Saturday ---- stopped in to say Hi as we were leaving for the temple.   Glad to see them doing this together.  Conner participated in a race with the Anderson family in the Jackson area.  On Sunday Justin was set apart as the executive secretary in his ward.

Lisa called today to say that she and Jeff had taken a motorcycle trip to Jackson Hole and then through the park by the south entrance and on to Rexburg where they spent their second night.  A spontaneous trip which is one of the best kind. They stopped at Uncle Larry and Aunt Bonnies home to say hi -- but no one there.  Lisa said all the doors were open but could find not one.  I think that is the Clayton Idaho thing.  Went by Uncle Harlens and Grandmas.   Carli was busy this weekend taking FABULOUS pictures of Kaden.  (check them out on her facebook page)  Brittani and Kevin were busy giving Kinley a new look.  She has her hair cut in a cute bob ----- she looks more like her mom than ever.

Paul ------- once again did work for me.  He now has the beginnings of the six drawers for my kitchen.  They are beautiful.  He is truly a craftsman. He has also been busy with his "harvest" he says.  This is a yearly ritual.  The Brewers visited for the weekend and the Howells spent some time in the emergency room -------- Garrett is sporting a nice wrap on his foot since he totally bent his toe under.  Tyler is crawling every where and pulling himself up to everything.  Won't be too long till the walking will start.  Meagan is hoping before the new baby comes.  Mandy is hanging in there ---- soon it will be time for baby Katharine to join the family.

Mary and Todd borrowed the tent and air mattress and headed to the east side of Bear Lake for the night. BUT ---- mother nature changed those plans. At three o clock in the MORNING the wind was blowing so hard the tent was right on top of them and the air was filled with dust. Crazy kids packed it all up and headed down the canyon. Mary said they only saw one deer in the road. Sure am glad they are safe.  We are still missing Shaylee ---- I continue to place her name in the temple and she is in our prayers every minute of every day.  Love her.   Heidi and Bert have returned home and he is settled in his new rental.   Damon ----- now he just always tells me that he is Good.  Yep, he is.

Nichole and Clayton spent Friday night entertaining each other.  Jeff was at work and Skylar, Tristin and Hunter were on an overnighter with the Young Men.  They went kayaking and canoeing on the Rum River.  It was reported that Skylar and Tristin really enjoyed it but, Hunter says it was not his thing.  Skylar arrived home later on Saturday than the other two boys.  They had gotten one of the canoes stuck in some brush at the side of the river and had to get it out.  They are enjoying their ward and have found out just how small the world is.  Justin who is in the Young Mens was roommates with Skylar Westergard at college.  His wife was a roommate with Jessica Hall, who grew up in Elwood also.  You better be careful what you do and say when out in the big world because someone is likely to know someone you know.  It has also been reported to Nichole that all the girls in the ward have a crush on Tristin.  He was the talk of Girl's Camp.

Sid has returned home from Chicago and Heather is now five.  The Sorias are always busy.  Natalie has been feeling a bit rough but is getting on top.  I think that everyone knows that she and Sid are expecting a baby.  New little baby Soria is to arrive in February.  I have been teasing her that it just might be twins because she has felt so much worse with this one.  But miss Heather informed me that her mother could not handle two.  I think perhaps that sounds just like her mothers words.  They are preparing to leave for Lake Tahoe on Wednesday to spend time with Sid's family before Danny ships out.  Sammy was so glad to see Heather when we took her home.  He loves his sister and followed her and copied her in everything.

Amy, Danny and Jacob are busy at work ------- Jacob starts school in a week so they are trying to get on a school schedule.  Today Jacob got his new glasses.  He promises that he will wear them.  While Amy sleeps from working the night shift, Jacob reads.  This young man reads and reads.  He also has a memory like an encyclopedia.  While tripping with us and on the trip to Yellowstone he would tell us so many things about the places we were.  He loves to watch shows on TV about information.

Now ----- grandchildren I have missed some of you ------ not only in word but in seeing or talking with you.  Our door is always open and we would love to hear from you.  We love each one of you so very much.  You are ALL in our hearts and prayers.   We in turn need your love and prayers.  Especially at this time Brad and I ask that each one of you will keep us in your prayers and ask our Father in Heaven to help us.

Sweet Call from President Taylor

Today Brad and I received a sweet call from President Taylor to see how we were doing.  He wanted to know how things had gone for us on Saturday night and to encourage us.  He said that it had been very hard for him to learn everything and at one time Sister Lynette had expressed to him that she wondered if he was really enjoying it.  But----- he said he just needed the time that was necessary for him to learn.  He was grateful to those who had helped him with patience but also for pushing him.  He also expressed how grateful he was for prayer and the prayers of others.  He expressed his love for the temple and us.  He was always very encouraging and uplifting to me when I worked for him and Sister Lynette.   They still continue with this same sweet kindness.

A New Adventure

'
WOW!!! that is all that I can say about our first experience as workers in the Logan Temple. As Brad and I met at the close of our shift we both looked a bit bedraggled and I have to honestly say TIRED. We had bought us each a pair of nice leather shoes to work in. It is so funny because on the box it says that they were guaranteed for 1000 miles. I just told Brad that I had not expected to walk 999 the first night. But the most wonderful and amazing thing is the testimony of prayer that is gained. I had prayed fervently that my knees and legs would not give out on me. Stairs have been hard with the new knee and the other knee needing to be replaced. I have to take them one at a time and very slow. I was able to walk all the stairs in the temple from the basement to the third floor. I even handled the spiral staircase. Yes, my legs were very tired but the pain of each step was not there.   I was able to do the necessary standing also.  I do know that a special blessing was mine.
We met many kind and gracious people who greeted us with such great encouragement.  Sister Lynette is in our group and sister Susie Pugsley.  It is always good to see familiar faces.  Our trainers are Brother and Sister Nalder from Holbrook.  They have served for a little less than a year and she said she was as nervous as me because they just finished being trained a short time ago.  They also had just returned home from a mission in Nauvoo before this calling.  Very sweet sister.
I know that we will be okay and that our minds will be made alert and we will be able to memorize and REMEMBER.  I think that perhaps the greatest joy of the week has been the sweet closeness that I have felt for my companion Brad.  To share in something so sacred brings about a change of attitudes in how we view and treat others.  He is my best friend, my best cheerleader, my best protector, my best helper and most of all my sweet husband.  I am blessed.

I do hope that some of my children and grandchildren will be interested in reading this post because I would like to share one of the sweetest experiences of the night.  I do know that the Lord works in mysterous ways His wonders to perform.

After we were dressed in our white cloths we proceded to the basement area of the temple where the cafeteria is located along with  two other rooms to attend prayer meeting.  We were in the room to the far South but I knew that it had a special meaning to me and the spirit was very close.  We had been asked to sit up front to be introduced to the group.  My tears were very close because of the special memory that I held in my heart and I was afraid that they would think I was silly.  After all it was just an introduction.   But---that was not the reason for the tears.
It was the memory of a very special day in 1979.  I think that perhaps my older children will remember this day.  The Logan Temple had been closed for sometime while it was TOTALLY renovated.  All that was left standing were the outside walls.  Everything else would be replaced.  It was now complete and time for the re dedication.  Dale had passed away and so when the tickets were handed out to the priesthood of the ward we had no one to represent us so the tickets that we received would place us in the basement  by the cafeteria in the South room where we would watch the service on a TV screen.  Janalee had really kind of been mean about the situation because at the time Bill was  serving in a Stake calling and their tickets would place them in the Assembly Room with the First Presidency.  Yes, I did feel bad,  my heart was already broken, and I truly felt so alone at the time.
The older children and I dressed in our best and headed to the temple.  I do believe that Tonya, Glenda, Jeff, and Teresa were old enough to attend.  Mary would have been 10 but I just can't remember for sure. (Let me know Mary)
We were guided down the stairs and shown the area where we would be sitting.  We were kind of in the middle of the front row.  Well, just shortly before it was time for the service to begin a gentleman in a beautiful white suit came into the room.  He looked around and walked over to me.  "Sister", he said, "will you and your family please follow me".  Now the children were being good as gold and I didn't think there was a problem.  But, we arose and followed him.  He took us further South to an elevator.  Oh, and it was a beautiful elevator with gold doors.  He opened them and asked us to join him.  When he closed the doors he looked at me and these beautiful children and said,  "I am taking you to the Celestial Kingdom".  When the elevator stopped we exited out the opposite door and he guided us into the Assembly Room on the top floor of the temple where the First Presidency would officiate at the re dedication.   He seated us, gave me an angel smile and left.
Does the Lord look after His own.  Oh, yes He does.  He knew of the sadness in my heart that day and he lifted me up.  He helped me know that He knew of me and my sweet eight children and that I was not alone.  He let me know that life is eternal and that I could go on and accomplish my life her on earth.  He let me know that I would be sustained in raising the sweet eight children that He had entrusted to Dale and I, and that I would find joy and peace in my life.  I just need to always  have the FAITH that would be needed.

When we left the prayer meeting on Saturday the sisters walked South in the hall and there was that beautiful gold door to the elevator that goes to the Celestial Kingdom.  I haven't seen it from the basement area for 32 years but that same beautiful feeling came to me.  I Thank My Heavenly Father for again testifying to me that LIFE IS ETERNAL  and that HE LOVES ME and WATCHES OVER ME.

Blessings

Today is the day. Just a bit on edge. I know that Brad and I will be blessed in this calling. I just hope my legs will be made strong and my mind alert. For so ling I have felt like the black sheep of my family. They have all been so great in callings and I have just kind of been here. Serving our Heavenly Fzther and His son in the temple is a great help. Perhaps I am a good and faithful person. We will return home this evening about 10:30.

Fun Family

We had some delightful visitors over the weekend ------ nothing better than have family come.

50

It is a HAPPY BIRTHDAY for Tonya today. I do not know where the time went but it is now fifty years since Tonya was born. Her father and I were so happy. She was a perfect baby. So healthy and cute. We had a wonderful time learning to take care of her and watching her grow. Today Tonya is a mother of her own three beautiful children. She does so very much for everyone that I do not know how she can keep going. I know that her Heavenly Father is so very proud of her the same as we are.
Tonya was so sweet to share some birthday time with Heather this weekend. She made it so special for this little niece. Thanks seems so small for the gift of love that she shared. HAPPY BIRTHDAY and many many more filled with great peace and joy.

Decorating Birthday Cupcakes

It has been so much fun ----- good frosting and BEAUTIFUL sprinkles

It is so fun to share birthdays so close to each other

Heather is visiting

Heather is staying with us for her summer vacation with us before school starts. I am sure the days will be filled with fun.
Carli Jo brought Heather to our home on Thursday Evening.  She was going to stay until Sunday Evening and then go back to Farmington with Carli and Kaden.  However, plans were changed a little when she asked if she could sleep over TWO more nights.  Today August 9th Brad and I will be driving her back to her home.  It has been a fun few days.  Will write more detail later.
Fun doing CRAFTS with Grandma and Aunt Teresa
Aunt Teresa and Uncle Paul took Heather and MacKenzie to MacDonald's on Friday night ---- lots of fun

On Saturday Aunt Tonya and MacKenzie took Heather shopping at Wal-Mart for a new swimming suit and cover-up so they could go swimming at the Brigham Pool.  They wouldn't let Heather go down the big slide alone and MacKenzie was not old enough to take her but she went down the little slide at least a gazillion times Aunt Tonya said.  She had the most fun time and that evening went the to Wheat and Beet Day Fireworks with the Woodruff.  One tired little girl but so happy.

On Sunday Aunt Tonya brought cupcakes to decorate for their birthdays.  Tonya's is on the 9th and Heather's is on the 10th.  One will be 50 and one will be 5.  Can you guess which.  It was so much fun and I cooked dinner for them plus the Woods and Brewers and we had delicious cupcakes and ice cream for dessert.

Kevin and Brittani celebrate

Today the Nielsens hve been married for four years. I remember the night of their first blind. It was in August of 2006 and we were having the Clayton reunion at the park. I do not know who arranged this meeting but i am so glad they did. They are truly a great couple now making a great family.

I Love To See The Temple

Today Brad and I met with President Bauchman, a counselor in the Logan Temple presidency, where we received and accepted a calling to work as officiators. He set us apart and scheduled us to begin on August 13th. Nervouse but happy. Keep us in your prayers that our minds and bodies will be strong. It is a two year calling but perhaps when the Brigham City Temple is complete we will be called to work there. I am grateful for this blessing at this time in our lives. My prayers are that each member of our family will met us in the temple.

Yellowstone Memories

We arrived home today from a nice vacation with the Despain Family.  We are grateful for Uncle Harlen's generosity in letting us use his summer home.  It brought back so many wonderful memories.  I know that time marches on but sometimes I would just like to have a few of those "Good Old Days" back.

Headed North --- Always love the Tetons ---- A stop at Big Juds was on the menu----a good burger

Jacob --- loving every minute --- so much fun

Swinging --- playing games ----- Grandpa reading on Grandma's Nook --- Book about Mickey Mantle

Yellowstone Park here we come ---- the only animals we saw other than the two legged variety ---- I have never seen so many people swimming in the river in the park ---- all decked out in swimsuits

Arrived just a few minutes before this eruption ---- we were a ways back but it was so magnificent

A trip to the visitors center at Old Faithful to see a movie and then a stroll down memory lane as we went to the Old Faithful Inn

Amazing consturction

Visited this place many time in my youth with my family ---- lots of good memories
We stayed for a second eruption ---- much closer ---- what a show  ----- we also watch two others erupt before Old Faithful
Signs and warning and some crazy people around us
Moose outside of park on the Madison below Mack's Inn

A trip to Big Springs to feed the fish----OOPS! no fish but this mother duck and her little ducklings loved Jacob's bread and they were so fun to watch.  Jacob could coax them to come back with the bread but finally mother duck said no more and led them away.

The Despains walk to the John Sack cabin

Brad and I enjoy sitting by the river and waiting for their return ----- Jacob then tested out the coldness of the water.  Pretty cold ---- sign says 52 degrees year round.  His feet got a bit red.
Don't know but just maybe the same moose ---- showed up at Big Springs as we were leaving

Brad doing a bit of repair ---- the darn chipmunk or squirrel has taken residence

A trip to Quake Lake ----- I always get nervous here and even though it makes you very humble and kind of sad at the same time I as glad to head out.  Lots to think about ----- nature is truly a tremendous force.
Jacob and the Indian War Tepee --- We learned about a War Lodge at Cody ---- He would really have loved to be able to find a covering for the tepee and played in it ----- thought it was cool

Beautiful Wild Flowers everywhere

A day shopping in West Yellowstone on the August First ---- then a fun evening at the Playmill.  We enjoyed "Joseph's coat of many colors"
Headed home ---- a side trip through Rexburg to show Jacob the college his mother graduated from and the places she lived.  Then a trip around the beautiful Rexburg Temple.  As we have traveled and vacationed these past weeks all I can say is "Thank You" my dear parents and ancestors for helping me to have the Gospel of Jesus Christ in my life.  It is His Gospel and it is the only way to live to have TRUE Peace and Joy.
